My daughter was given several of those "other" hamster toys for Christmas, but this is the one she likes best. It doesn't squeak or moo, but it's adorable and can find its way around, unlike the other hamsters. Also, it works on carpet. Basically, it was a huge hit with adults and children alike. Someone on here said they'd rather pay too much than drive all over the place to get one? well.....



The mark up on these is ridiculous, the company who makes them don't benefiting from that either, they sell to the retailers and the retailer screw the consumer because they know they can.



Isn't it the same as driving all over creation when you're willing to pay over $40 more for something just because it's hard to find right now? I'd rather wait till after Christmas and take the kids shopping with their gift cards and they can pick one out for 8-10 dollars.

It's the same every year, the media hypes up some toy as the best and people go nuts trying to get them while retailers take advantage of the customers. People will break themselves to get the best toy ever that will be back on the shelves for half the price or less just after xmas. Like the Wii, xbox 360, cabbage patch, power rangers etc. I bet people who spent 500. on a wii are regretting not waiting and paying 199. The Xbox was selling all over Ebay for 1000. and more, ridiculous.

I want to get these zhu zhu pets for my kids too, but I'm not willing to pay the over inflated prices that Amazon allows these 3rd party companies to charge.



Bottom line is most kids are happy to open lots of gifts, they won't miss the most popular toy because it's mostly the parents that want to make sure their kids get these. The worst part is that many of the "toys of the year" will end up in the corner of the room within a week, ignored.

It's so funny to me that you people would actually get mad over this. It's no different than the 80's when cabbage patch kids were sold out. My mom had to get mine from 3 states away! With the internet at least it's possible to get what you want without having to drive all over creation hoping you can get your hands on one. I'd much rather pay extra and guarantee my kid will have it under the tree. If you don't want to spend more, fine but don't knock people who sell it when there are buyers to support it.

I bought 3 zhu zhus and the skateboard/uturn add on. The actual hamsters are really pretty great (see my review under Pipsqueak), but this add on was such a waste.



It's pretty tough to get the hamster locked in place on the skateboard (i.e. he doesn't get on it on his own like the car add on). Pressing on the hamster's back while pushing up on the skateboard seems the best way to get it locked on there, but pushing on its back also activates the wheels- making keeping it in place quite a challenge. My 3 yr old cannot get the hamster locked on the skateboard. She initially resorted to getting in on halfway and pushing it around like a manual operation toy/car. Now she's just given up all together. She still carries the accessory around and shows it to the hamster, but doesn't even bother trying.



The u-turn is also a waste. It's so light that the hamster can't get into it on its own. Every time we've gotten a hamster near it- it just pushes the darn uturn across the floor- somtimes making the honking horn sound. It's even worse if you've gotten the hamster skateboard and try getting it through the u-turn.



It is kind of neat to see the hamster tearing across the room on the board once you've gotten him in there, but not enough to make it worth the $.

This toy is great but what they are asking on E-Bay sellers is totally rediculous, I first found ZHU ZHU Pets at ToysRus and purchased a three pack of ZHU ZHU Pets for $34.00 and the Skateboard & U-Turn for $11.99, this is such a rip off to ask people to pay $54.99 for this get REAL!!!!!!!!! nice job on trying to rip off the consumer.SHAME ON YOU< SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!!!!! I can see making a little profit as they are so popular but this is beyond profit, this is a sheer RIP-OFF. It would be a cold day in H_ _ L before I would spend this, if I did not have this my Grand-daughter would wait til it became available at ToysrUs again.

I gave this to my granddaughter for an early Christmas gift, as I will not be seeing her this Christmas. The Zhu Zhu Pets tip over very easily when using the U-turn.

My granddaughter is seven years old...I know that she will quickly lose interest in these toys within a year. The are extremely overpriced by all sellers. The Zhu Zhu hamsters are very cute to play with on their own. The noises that they make are adorable, so don't waste your money on any of the add-ons! The Zhu Zhu hamsters are extremely overpriced as well, but, being a doting Grandma, I HAD to get these for my granddaughter!

I keep reading reviews about these "Zhu-Zhu pet" sellers price gouging and ripping people off. Listen up people no one is making you purchase them for way above retail price. Just be patient and they will come in stock. I just picked mine up today off of Amazon at retail using a desktop alert system that can be installed via [...] This is not a scam this is a legit way to notify you of the availabilty of these creatures and their accessories online. Its free and not a scam! Be a hero and try it.

We purchased this for our son a few weeks ago and he loves it! So do all of his friends! The hamster is sturdy and has endless tricks and energy. Much better than the real thing! I think it would interest everyone who is complaining about the private sellers to know that my friend sells on Amazon and she has to pay quite alot for her toys, as she purchases them from a toy supplier and as demand goes up, the prices from the suppliers go way up. Add to that the 20% fee she pays for each item sold, plus time, shipping, etc. and she really doesn't clear all of that much. It's a great convenience for us working moms to be able to purchase online! All of the stores are out of this and she couldn't buy any at the toy stores at the low prices any more than the rest of us could. This is a great toy and lots of fun!

There's an Amazon product-availability tool (access it at WhenInStock*com) that will let you know the second they come in. Don't get price-gouged by these affiliate stores that sell them for $60+. If you use this tool, just input the amazon stock number (ANSI) of the Zhu Zhu you want, and it will let you know the second they come in, so you can buy one before they sell out again. A commentary before the low-down on the Zhu-Zhu's.



I'm a loyal Amazon customer who buys every variety of product almost exclusively here. This is because after obsessively shopping the web and brick-and-mortar stores, rarely do I find more than a couple of percent difference in price between Amazon and the rest of the world. Factoring in the free, two-day shipping, the convenience, Amazon's excellent (independently rated) customer service, and the comfort associated with purchasing from a trusted source that stands behind what they sell, it's a no-brainer to shop here versus anyplace else. Even more, with Amazon's packaging policies, it's very green, made even greener by virtue of home delivery versus a bunch of individuals in their individual cars driving to a retail location to buy their wares. Yes, I love Amazon. But seeing the prices that they are getting for these Zhu-Zhu Pets makes me love them a lot less and has given me pause.



I bought a couple of Zhu-Zhu's at a CVS Pharmacy here in upstate NY at up to 80% less than the Amazon prices the of last two weeks. I bought more on Ebay for 40% less than Amazon's price today. CVS has the items for $9.99, as does Wal-Mart, Target, Toys R Us, and others. Yes, it's the hot toy of the season. Yes, it flies off the shelves as soon as it comes in. Yes, people living in the hinterlands may not have easy access to places selling the Zhu-Zhu's at MSRP. Still, for a company like Amazon, which seems more principled than most, and, moreover, seems genuinely concerned about "customer experience," it aopears that Amazon is being plainly opportunistic and engaging in price gouging. The onus may be on the consumer to do their homework; let the buyer beware, because the merchant will take what the traffic will bear. Yet, considering those who don't have easy access to this merchandise at its normal and fair selling price, Amazon is diminishing their reputation with its unfair pricing of these items. (Or by the sellers it is allowing to sell the item under Amazon's banner.)



The above is especially egregious considering the item, pro and con.



PRO.

1. Very cute and amusing. KIds seem to instantly take to it.

2. It's novel.

3. For $9.99, it's a very special stocking-stuffer.



CON

1. It is poorly made and in all likelihood will break or fall apart quickly.

2. It doesn't do all that much and its charm will likely wear off quickly.

3. The accessories associated with it are expensive, similarly poorly made like the pets are, and, they're somewhat cheap and unattractive-looking.

4. Not that this matters all that much, but unlike some toys--even those that provide some fun and brain stimulation when you take them apart and reassemble them--this toy has no educational value. This is not a requirement for a fun, enjoyable toy, but it's something to consider if you're spending $40-$60 on it.



Were it not part of a fad, and supported by lots of TV advertising, it's unlikely that a shopper finding these on a store shelf would give them a second look. People are getting into fist-fights over these things, though, according to news reports and the manager at my local CVS. Recall the Beenie Baby fad of a few years ago. People were selling "limited edition" BB's for hundreds of dollars on Ebay. Now, they go for a few dollars and are sold ubiquitously, from convenience stores to upscale toy stores. No big deal are these things, and it's likely that next year a Zhu=Zhu can be had for a song.



To sum up, for $9.99, these toys are amusing and clever and junky and will likely make kids ages 4-8 happy for a little while. For forty to sixty dollars, they are scandalously overpriced and not worth it. If this is a must-have Christmas item for your child or loved one, making them happy knows no price. We all know how desirable the item of the moment is to our kids. But, if you're concerned about value, or you don't particularly care about going with the herd, spend no more than MSRP on this toy--or choose something else instead.

This toy is excellent for any child that likes animals. The only drawback has nothing to do with the toy it's the incredible price gouging by the sellers. I would have liked to have known that this toy should have retailed for about $16.00 before I purchased it for $49.00. I bought these for my 2 daughters and they truly love them! I'm tired of all of the complaints about sellers! I am way too busy to go through what all these sellers do for their customers. I remember when a most wanted toy was out of stock at the stores and you had no recourse so I'm just happy to have somewhere to buy this and have it delivered to my door with just a click! My neighbor sells for ebay and she works herself to death trying to make a few dollars. After she adds up her time and gas, the 20% fee she pays for each item sold, extra shipping, etc., she really doesn't make much. So buy it if you want and be happy, otherwise, pass it by and stop complaining!

Sorry, but this is just wrong. They may be hard to find, but not impossible and there will be more. After Christmas they will be readily available and reasonably priced. I think it's wrong to put the prices up this high.

These are fun little toys - very similar to a mouse toy our cat has! These entertain our kids (and our cat) for hours! They were worth the $8 we paid. They aren't worth more than that price!



I know they are hard to find, but how does that excuse amazon sellers from charging today's price of $99.99 plus shipping (for a grand total of $108.10) for two little $8 hamsters? If you pay the REALISTIC price, they are a fun little buy, but they are not worth much more, not matter how much your child wants them.
