My wife bought me this set for Christmas when it first came out (for about $15). I thought it was a rip off at that price. The pieces are made of soft plastic and are way too large for the flimsy cardboard board that comes with the set. The Knight pieces barely stand up at all as they are top heavy and poorly balanced.
Fortunately the pieces of this set are hollow and we were able to improve our set by using a hot glue gun to glue lead weights inside the base of each piece. Now the pieces are quite playable if one uses a full (tournament-sized) chess board.
The current price that this set sells for is obviously due to its value as a collectable item. If you're looking for a playable chess set, note that you can buy far better (more playable) chess sets for just a fraction of what this set sells for.

Paper-thin box, flimsy folding cardboard board, and poorly weighted pieces on a crowded board. Save your money and get something better... this set's only selling point is it's link to Harry Potter -- and it's a tenuous link at best.

Looking at pictures, you'd think it was a flawless chess set: The pieces look great, but it's also very clear which is which (none of this "pitcher is the queen, first baseman is a rook" nonsense). However, the knights invade other squares, and make for a very cluttered feel, which is augmented by too-tall queen/king/bishops. The knights are also top-heavy, and prone to tip.
The box is made out of cardstock, my pieces quickly moved to a Rubbermaid to stay safe, and was kind of frustrating in it's PC, 10 (no exaggeration) language diversity.
The foldable board didn't bother me, except for it's size, and it's tendency to lift a bit.
In terms of durability, my pieces have led a hard life, and the only problem is that they slant away from the base, making them even tippier, but nothing's broken.
For $50, I'm not sure it's the best buy, and am amazed that a set with a tin, bigger, rollable board, and heavy plastic pieces filled with rubber ("double-weight", like most traditional nice sets) is not available.
But on the other hand it was darn fun...

For the price (under thirty dollars at some sites), the quality and details of the (albeit plastic) pieces are quite satisfactory. My kid and his friends definitely love this, but more as a toy than a chess set. The problem is the size. The pieces are too big, especially for kids, and the board is too small. The pieces kept getting knocked over inadvertantly. If the board had been 50% larger, I would have given it another star.

Oh this is so great. A plastic wizard's chess set from the Harry
Potter Movie. It's well made but the one I got had one of the knights
bent funny so it would not stand. But I kept working it and now it
stands but it leans funny. Still, the set is well done. The bottoms
of the pieces I glued some green felt to so they slid better on the
game board. Very pleased with this set.
